Did I fail you Little One?
Dedicated to Tristan, who lost the battle to TetanusDid
I fail you Little One?
Did I let you down?
Some battles were lost and won
As I placed you in the ground.
I rescued you from a horrible place
Where fear and panic did abound.
Each day was a dreadful frantic race,
Peace in that hell was not found.
Your pain and suffering we did relieve.
And on that day, this is true,
Our hard work, we did believe,
Would bring good life to you.
But, alas it was not meant to be,
Because your body, filled with disease
You were to become a whispering memory.
Like a warm and gentle summer breeze.
I labored, your precious life to give,
I held you, loved you and fought our fight.
While you struggled desperately to live,
You did not survive to see the night.
My tears flow freely from lessons learned,
Through the many sleepless troubled nights.
The days fill up with pain I’ve earned,
With reflections of the wrongs and rights.
Your forgiveness, I beg of you please,
I learned some lessons, hard but true,
As I set my troubled mind at ease.
Then, Little One, I did not forever fail you.
